01/02/2011: Vice President Binay Dialogues with CSIS, Other Washington Based Think Tanks
01 February 2011, Washington DC. Upon the invitation of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay had a roundtable dialogue this afternoon with US think tanks.
On the margins of his meetings with the World Bank in Washington DC, Vice President Binay met with foreign policy experts from the CSIS, Center for New American Security, the Johns Hopkins University, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center, among others, to brief them on recent developments in the Philippines. The Vice President spoke in particular about the efforts of the Philippine government to instill good governance, as well as combat trafficking in persons.
They also exchanged views on the state of Philippine-US relations, the Philippines’ role in the region, and global issues of interest to the US and the Philippines.
The dialogue was moderated by Ernest Bower, Senior Adviser and Director of CSIS’ Southeast Asia Programs. Participants included former Ambassador to the Philippines Thomas Hubbard, Ambassador Stapleton Roy of the Woodrow Wilson International Center, Prof William Wise of the John Hopkins University, Mr. Evans Alexander of Citigroup, and Mr. Abe Denmark of the Center for New American Security.
US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas also participated in the roundtable.
