02/02/2011: Vice President Binay Speaks at World Bank Meeting
02 February 2011, Washington DC. Upon the invitation of the World Bank, Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay spoke yesterday at the annual meeting of the World Bank Sustainable Development Network (SDN), which was held at the international financial institution’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. The SDN promotes economic growth strategies using infrastructure that is environmentally responsible and socially acceptable.
Vice President Binay’s keynote address focused on the Philippine government’s efforts on disaster risk reduction and management. He cited the multi-sectoral role played by local government, civil society and private sector in responding to natural calamities. The Vice President also made a presentation on urban development later in the afternoon that delved on the constraints in managing urbanization in the Philippines, the experience of Makati City, and possible opportunities for players in the urban development business.
Vice President Binay also met with other high-level officials including World Bank Managing Director Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Mr. James Adams, Regional Vice President for East Asia, to discuss further avenues for collaboration. END
