25/02/2011: Conference on the Filipino Diaspora to be held at the PICC in September 2011
25 February 2011, Washington DC. The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), led by Chairperson Imelda M. Nicolas, in cooperation with the National Federation of Filipino Associations in America (NaFFAA) and the US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG), will hold a conference on “Diaspora to Development: A Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora” at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila on 27-29 September 2011.
According to the CFO, the conference will gather approximately 700 participants from 40 countries, including previous Presidential awardees as well as leaders and convenors of the NaFFAA and USP4GG and other global Filipino networks, migration-related Philippine government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, academe, private sector, an multilateral agencies.
The organizers add that the Global Summit aims to highlight the achievements of overseas Filipinos and discuss possible areas on how they could be partners to Philippine development. It also seeks to create a network among leaders of the overseas Filipino community and serve as a launching venue for the Diaspora to Development Program of the CFO.
