04/05/2011: Notice to Passport Applicants
Due to the recent unprecedented increase in passport applications and other technical concerns, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila is currently experiencing a back log in the processing and releasing of passports.
The DFA is exerting all efforts and is working diligently to resolve this problem. The following measures have been put in place:
The Philippine Embassy will extend the passports of applicants for two (2) years, free of charge, for those who have already filed their applications and whose passports have not been released 30 days after the date of application.
Applicants with expired passports may wish to apply for travel document if they have an emergency travel to the Philippines (medical concerns and death in the immediate family).
The Philippine Embassy advises the public to apply for passports at least twelve (12) weeks before their intended date of travel.
The Philippine Embassy requests the public’s understanding on this matter. The DFA in Manila is committed to resolve these problems at the soonest possible time.
Thank you very much. END
