31/05/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets Senator Inouye

31 May 2011, Washington DC. Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia Jr. was recently received for the first time by Senate President Pro-Tempore Daniel K. Inouye (D-HI) at his office in the U.S. Capitol Building. Senator Inouye has been one of the strongest supporters of the friendship between the Philippines and the United States.
Senator Inouye cited his successful visit with Senator Thad Cochran (R-MI) to the Philippines on April 25 and 26. He reassured Ambassador Cuisia that he would continue his championship of the SAVE Act bill, where efforts continue to be exerted to increase the likelihood of its passage. He remains committed to Philippines-US alliance and reiterated his support for even closer defense cooperation. He also expressed his desire for the resolution of the remaining issues with regard to the receipt by qualified Filipino veterans of benefits due them under the Filipino Veterans Equity Compensation Act.
