06/06/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets Representative Hanabusa
06 JUNE 2011, WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Colleen Wakako Hanabusa, Democratic Representative for Hawaii's 1st congressional district, received Ambassador Cuisia at her office in the United States Congress. Congresswoman Hanabusa assured Ambassador Cuisia of her support for the SAVE Act and expressed her desire for the Philippines and the U.S. to continue their collaboration on issues of mutual importance.
Ambassador Cuisia thanked Congresswoman Hanabusa for recently signing in as a new member of the Philippines-United States Congressional Friendship Caucus. Ambassador Cuisia also discussed with her the renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences program by the US Congress and the importance of the Hawaii-based United States Pacific Command in strengthening defense relations between the two countries.
Representative Hanabusa is formerly a member of the Hawaii Senate, representing the 21st District since 1998. She served as the Senate Majority Leader, before being elected Hawaii's first woman President of the Senate in 2006, making her the first Asian American woman to preside over a state legislative chamber in the United States.
