08/06/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets with World Bank Managing Director Indrawati
08 JUNE 2011, WASHINGTON, D.C. – Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. met today with World Bank Managing Director Sri Mulyani Indrawati. Among the issues discussed was the Bank’s Country Assistance Strategy Progress Report (CASPR) for FY 2010-2013, which recognized that the macroeconomic prospects for the Philippines are encouraging and that investor confidence in the Philippines continue to improve with the Aquino administration’s “strong focus on tackling corruption and reducing the costs of doing business.”
Ambassador Cuisia conveyed his appreciation for the World Bank’s continued strategic partnership with the Philippine Government in fighting poverty and promoting good governance, and commended the Bank’s support to the 2011 Philippines Development Forum (PDF) which was held in Manila on 26 February 2011. Dr. Indrawati, in turn, acknowledged the Aquino administration’s strong commitment to implement governance and policy reforms.
Dr. Indrawati was appointed as Managing Director of the World Bank Group by its President, Robert B. Zoellick, on 04 May 2010. Prior to her current position, she served as Minister of Finance of Indonesia. In her role, Dr. Indrawati supervises three Regions: Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, and East Asia and Pacific. END
