21/06/2011: Filipino Community in Metro DC Welcomes Back Foreign Affairs Secretary del Rosario
21 June 2011, Washington, DC – Secretary Albert del Rosario of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines addressed members of the Filipino community in metropolitan Washington, DC in a reception held at the Embassy of the Philippines on 20 June 2011.
In his introduction of the Secretary, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. underscored the leadership example that Secretary del Rosario has set for the entire Foreign Service citing his trip to Tripoli, Libya soon after he was appointed to personally manage the evacuation of Filipinos.
In his remarks, Secretary del Rosario who served as Philippine Ambassador to the United States in 2001 to 2006 informed his fellow Filipinos that, “you never left my heart.” He then discussed the priorities of the Philippine government in the implementation of the country’s Foreign Policy and added that now, more than ever, the Philippines needs the continued support of Filipinos overseas.

The reception was attended by community leaders from other parts of the United States as well, including New York-based Ms. Loida Nicolas Lewis, one of the founders of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA).
The Secretary is in Washington, DC to meet with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senators and Members of Congress and other officials of the US government. -- END
