15/07/2011: UPMASA Sponsors Lecture Series on Contemporary PH Issues
15 July 2011, Washington D.C. – In a break from traditional medical lectures, the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society in America (UPMASA) sponsored last July 9 a lecture series on contemporary Philippine issues relevant to the needs of Filipino-Americans. The event was held at the Gaylord National Harbor Hotel & Convention Center during the UPMASA 26th Annual Grand Convention (AGC), which was hosted by the Society’s Baltimore-Washington DC Chapter.
Among the issues discussed during the forum were dual citizenship, the 2010 Philippine elections, retirement, property investment, and overseas medical coverage for U.S. citizens in the Philippines. Philippine Embassy officials Consul General Domingo Nolasco and Consul Emil Fernandez served as resource speakers for topics pertaining to dual citizenship and retirement, respectively. Dr. Abraham Rasul was instrumental in organizing the non-medical lecture forum, which was widely attended by Filipino-American medical practitioners throughout the U.S.
The five-day AGC was capped with a gala ball later that evening. Dr. Zenda Lat was inducted as UPMASA’s new president, replacing Dr. Ofelia Bernabe. Other special guests included the President of the University of the Philippines, Dr. Alfredo Pascual, and former Senator Santanina Rasul. (END)
