01/08/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets with Korean Ambassador Han Duk-Soo
01 August 2011, Washington DC. Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. met with H.E. Han Duk-Soo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the US. Ambassador Cuisia briefed Ambassador Han on the priorities being undertaken by President Aquino, particularly the effort to stamp out corruption and create the conditions necessary to attract more foreign investment. He encouraged Ambassador Han to enjoin Korean companies to consider investing more in the Philippines.
Ambassador Han said that the Philippines is very special to Koreans, as the Philippines was at the forefront of the effort to contain communism in Asia. He also recalled the contribution of Filipinos to the rebuilding and reconstruction of its capital city of Seoul.
The Philippines established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Korea in 1949. Korea is the Philippines fifth largest trading partner and the top source of tourism arrivals into the Philippines. In 2010, Korea was among the top three investors of the country with Php31.2 Billion (US$691.26 million) approved investments, representing 15.9 percent of the total FDI approved for the period. END
