09/08/2011: Embassy Commemorates 44th Anniversary of Founding of ASEAN

09 AUGUST 2011, WASHINGTON, D.C. Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. led the officers and staff of the Embassy of the Philippines in a flag raising ceremony held yesterday, August 8, in commemoration of the 44th Anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).  The Embassy joins the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila and the other member countries of ASEAN and its diplomatic posts around the world in raising the ASEAN flag on their premises.  The historic occasion symbolizes the unity of the ten Southeast Asian countries and their resolve in establishing an ASEAN Community by 2015.

The ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand. It is composed of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Viet Nam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. END
