20/09/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets with Senator Inouye of Hawaii and Senator Reid of Nevada
20 SEPTEMBER 2011, WASHINGTON DC. Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. met with Senate President Pro Tempore Daniel K. Inouye and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on September 8, 2011. Ambassador Cuisia discussed with Senator Inouye and Senator Reid important aspects of bilateral relations between the Philippines and the United States, including security and economic matters. Ambassador Cuisia took the opportunity to thank Senator Reid for co-sponsoring the SAVE Our Industries Act with Senator Inouye. The bill aims to promote increased US exports of textiles to the Philippines, and even to other countries in Asia, and PH exports of garments to the US that can lead to job creation for both countries. Senator Reid represents the state of Nevada which is populated by some 98,000 Americans of Filipino descent. Together with Senator Inouye, he strongly supported the passage of the Filipino Veterans Equity Compensation bill that recognized and provided benefits for Filipino veterans of World War II. END.
