23/09/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets with Senator Inouye of Hawaii and Senator McConnell of Kentucky

23 September 2011, Washington DC. Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. called on Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky on September 15, 2011 and briefed the Senator on a wide range of issues on the relations between the Philippines and the United States, which includes defense and trade cooperation. Present during the meeting was Senator Daniel K. Inouye.
The Senate Minority Leader took note of the success of the partnership between the Philippines and the United States in their fight against terrorism. He provided Ambassador Cuisia with advice on how to facilitate the progress of the Save Our Industries Act in the legislative process.
Senator McConnell also sits in the Committee on Appropriations, Committee on Rules Administration, and Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. With regard to his interest in Southeast Asian affairs, Senator McConnell shares with the Philippines the desire for greater democracy in Myanmar. END
