28/09/2011: Filcom Support Urged for Puerto Princesa Underground River Campaign
28 September 2011, Washington DC. The Department of Tourism of the Philippines and Office of the Puerto Princesa City Mayor are reiterating their request for the support of Filipinos overseas to vote for the Puerto Princesa Underground River, which has been selected as a finalist in a global survey of the 7 Wonders of Nature Campaign. The last day of voting is on November 10, 2011.
The Underground River, which features a spectacular limestone karst landscape, is found in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP). The area also represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. The site contains a full mountain to sea ecosystem and protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia. In recognition of its natural properties, the PPSRNP was inscribed to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s of (UNESCO) List of Natural World Heritage Sites.
The global poll is a private initiative run by the 7 Wonders of the World Foundation based in Switzerland, and the poll is confined to those with access to the internet, mobile and land phone. Voting is done through the website, www.new7wonders.com. END
