17/11/2011: Ambassador Cuisia Meets Representative Moran of Virginia

17 NOVEMBER 2011, WASHINGTON, DC. Philippine Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. met on November 3, 2011 with Representative James Patrick "Jim" Moran, Jr., the Democratic Representative for Virginia's 8th congressional district, serving since 1991. Representative Moran’s district is located in Northern Virginia and includes the cities of Falls Church and Alexandria, as well as a portion of Fairfax County and all of Arlington County.

Ambassador Cuisia provided Representative Moran with updates on Philippines-United States relations particularly on counterterrorism, defense and maritime security, and Asia-Pacific regional cooperation. They also discussed trade cooperation which centered on the Save Our Industries Act (H.R. 2387). During the meeting, Representative Moran assured Ambassador Cuisia that he would co-sponsor the SAVE Act bill. Ambassador Cuisia was accompanied by Filipino American leaders who are constituents of Representative Moran, namely Mr. Joe Montano and Mr. Gem Daus. Representative Moran has been very engaged with the Filipino American community in Northern Virginia. Expressing his affection for the Philippines and its current leadership, Representative Moran noted Ambassador Cuisia’s enumeration of the priorities of President Benigno Aquino III which include good governance, fighting corruption, and poverty alleviation. Representative Moran said that he would like to be of assistance in efforts that will contribute to further enhancing the friendship between the Philippines and the United States. He further said that he would sign up as member of the Philippines-United States Congressional Friendship Caucus.

Representative Moran is a Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies of the Committee on Appropriations, and Member of the said Committee’s Subcommittee on Defense. END.
