29 NOVEMBER 2011, WASHINGTON, DC. U.S. Representative John Phillip “Phil” Gingrey noted that the Philippines is “a great ally of the U.S.” at a meeting with Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. on November 3, 2011. Representative Gingrey is the Republican representative for Georgia's 11th congressional district, serving since 2003. The district is located in the northwestern suburbs of Atlanta. Representative Gingrey expressed appreciation for the heroism of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II. He also pointed out how the Filipino American community contributes to the greater American society in a meaningful way.
Representative Gingrey was glad to learn about the Ambassador’s recent trip to Atlanta where the Ambassador met with the Filipino American community, spoke at the Georgia Tech Campus and visited the Coca Cola headquarters and the Federal Reserve of Atlanta. Ambassador Cuisia and Representative Gingrey also discussed Philippines-U.S. bilateral relations. The Congressman said “we want our bilateral relations strong.” The Ambassador, for his part, suggested that one way of strengthening the relations is by deepening trade relations. He mentioned that the SAVE Our Industries Act (H.R. 2387), a bill currently being considered by the US Congress, could boost exports and create jobs in the Philippine apparel and U.S. textile industries. Representative Gingrey said he would look into the SAVE Act bill very closely.
Representative Gingrey sits on the Committee on Energy and Commerce and is Chairman of the GOP Doctors Caucus. END
