29/10/2012: HURRICANE ADVISORY #5: Filipinos in Great Lakes Region Told to also Brace for Sandy
HURRICANE ADVISORY #5
1900H, 29 October 2012
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Philippine Embassy is urging members of the Filipino Community in Ohio and Michigan to take the necessary precautions in view of the expected effects of Hurricane Sandy in the Great Lakes region.
The Embassy said the estimated 38,900 Filipinos in Ohio and Michigan should continue to monitor local media for storm-related announcements and avoid the coastlines of the Great Lakes as Hurricane Sandy is expected to make its way up the Northeastern United States after making landfall in New Jersey early this evening.
The Embassy said Filipinos should heed the warnings issued by the National Weather Service that Hurricane Sandy can combine with other storms as it moves into the Great Lakes and trigger strong winds and high waves at Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake St. Clair until Thursday.
The Embassy said Filipinos who may need assistance can call either the Embassy in Washington D.C. or the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago at telephone numbers 202-368-2767 and 312-501-6458 respectively.
