13/07/2010: Peace and Human Rights Education to Take Centerstage on the 11th International Youth Day Convention
13 July 2010, Washington, D.C. – The United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), through its youth arm, the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP), and in partnership with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) will hold the 11th International Youth Day (IYD) Convention on 10-12 August 2010 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, Philippines. With the theme, “Strengthening Peace and Human Rights Education for the Youth: Key to Sustainable Development,” the convention aims to increase participants’ awareness on peace and human rights education practices, issues, challenges and future directions, while encouraging youth participation towards the fulfillment of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
During the three-day event, participants will be enjoined to take part in various cultural, social and intellectual activities that will equip them with skills necessary in their respective programs on peace, human rights and sustainable development for their communities and institutions.
The celebration will also coincide with the launching of the International Year of Youth, which commences on 12 August 2010 and ends the following year.
