WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago is checking whether there were any Filipinos among the 19 people wounded in a shooting incident in New Orleans on Sunday.

The Philippine Embassy said Consul General Leo Herrera Lim reported that the Consulate is checking with members of the Filipino Community in New Orleans to determine if any of the 10,243 Filipinos there were among the wounded.

News reports said that 10 men, seven women and two children were hit by bullets fired by unidentified gunmen at a Mother’s Day Parade at around 1:45 p.m.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation attributed the shooting as street violence and not terrorism. ###
