07/08/2013: Photo Releases - Agreement Signing between the Philippine Embassy and the US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division

AGREEMENT SIGNING. Consul General Ariel Rodelas Penaranda (2nd from left) signs the Arrangement Establishing an Understanding between the United States Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the District Offices of Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa and the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Philippines in Washington, D.C. on 5 August 2013 in Orlando, Florida. The agreement was signed for the US Department of Labor by Michael Young of the Jacksonville District Office, James Schmidt of the Tampa District Office and Will Garnitz of the Miami District Office. The signing ceremony was held on the sides of the Philippine Embassy’s Consular Outreach in Orlando and Okeechobee in Florida. The objective of the agreement is to establish a collaborative relationship to provide Philippine nationals in Florida information, guidance, and access to education and training resources to help them exercise their workplace rights, particularly with regard to reducing violations of the minimum wage, overtime, recordkeeping, child labor, safe housing and transportation provisions of the laws and regulations administered and enforced by WHD, and to help them understand the rights of workers and responsibilities of employers under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act and the various employment programs under the Immigration and Nationality Act over which the Wage and Hour Division has enforcement authority.
