27/07/2010: Top-Notch Filipino-American Vocal Talents to Headline Performances at Reston Asian Festival’s Philippine Village; Filipino-American Vocal Talents to Headline Performances at Reston Asian Festival

27 JULY 2010, WASHINGTON, D.C. – Top-rated Filipino-American talents will take center-stage at the 7th Asian Festival in Reston, VA in a proud showcase of Filipino artistry, culture and heritage through vocal performances.

Confirmed to perform at the Philippine Village stage on July 31st between 6 – 8 in the evening are The Speaks, a young, talented, and charismatic five-piece band from the Washington, DC area.  The Speaks are “shattering stereotypes, making believers out of naysayers, and acquiring legions of new fans every single step along the way.”

From winning every major music competition they’ve entered, to rocking crowds of 25,000+ people, and gaining major support from DC101 (one of the most influential radio stations in the country) – The Speaks have become a staple of the DC metro area and one of the most recognizable and down-to-earth talents to come out in years.

The Speaks’ amazing live performances and infectious sound have created a loyal and dedicated following within the local, national, and international music scene – with fans all across the world, the numbers are growing fast in the tens of thousands. From their debut on DC101 in May 2003, their undeniable talent and hard working mentality has helped them extend their reach to a global scale.  In 2005 The Speaks signed a distribution, production and publishing deal with Warner Music (Asia) with the album release in the Philippines.  As a direct result, their second single off the album “High” has received an unprecedented amount of airplay, reached #1 on the longest running radio chart in Asia, as well as the music video gaining regular rotation on MTV Asia, MYX, and several other music video channels.

Also scheduled to perform during the opening ceremonies at the Main Stage of the Asian Festival on July 31st is classically-trained soprano and international singer Stephanie Reese.

Reese performed as Kim in the German production of Miss Saigon, Esmeralda in the Disney World Premier of the Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Princess Tuptim in the King and I at the Palladium Theater in London’s West End. She then returned to the United States and wrote, directed and starred in her autobiographical one-woman show entitled “The Journey” and received rave reviews in Seattle, San Jose, Los Angeles and at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco.

These solo endeavors launched Stephanie’s solo career and with her original music, versatile sound and fusion of opera, pop and theatrical music she created a new genre and style that has brought her global recognition. She has now performed solo concerts around the world including Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, China, the U.S. and Canada to her very loyal and diverse fan base.

Stephanie made her Hollywood debut just last year at the three-day star-studded celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Crustacean Restaurant of Beverly Hills where she shared the stage with Miss Patti Labelle and Natalie Cole and received a standing ovation for her female rendition of Nessun Dorma.

Singer-songwriter ALFA will also play to audiences on July 31st with her own brand of acoustic guitar music which she likewise wrote.  Alfa Alfa has independently released three EP’s (recorded during high school and her time at NYU) and recently, her debut LP, “Second Skin” (2009), which was hailed as “[Alfa] in her most brilliant form yet!”

Alfa’s emotive voice, trained by Don Lawrence in NYC (Tracy Bonham, Lady Gaga, Mick Jagger), complements the catchy, melodic twists of her smart-pop songs, which have captivated the likes of MTV, the New York Songwriters Circle, Best Buy, iPhone app makers and even a UCLA professor (who recently passed away, R.I.P. John Delloro). One second, Alfa will have you bobbing your head to the optimistic anthem “Supergirl,” the next you’ll find yourself whisked to foreign lands in the French and gypsy-inspired “Isabelle.”

Up and coming artists are also featured performers during the two-day festival.  These include:

Erika David who blends soul, pop, R & B and hard beats into catchy performances.  Erika’s music often explores the various stages of relationships.  Erika won the Colgate Mix-Fresh Competition and after that, worked with producer Bryan Michael Cox. Last December, in another career coup, Erika performed at the Z100 Jingle Ball All Access Lounge in New York. She shared the stage with Lady GaGa, Brandy, The Veronica’s and Secondhand Serenade, bringing in the New Year.

Ivy Rose Band, an all-female band that is making its name over the last few months. Competing with 30 boy bands in 9:30 club (D.C), they became the only girl band to take second position.  Competing yet again with champions of the BOB in UMD, they ended up the eventual winners and opened for WEEZER & Ben Folds last month in Byrd Stadium, UMD.  Just recently, Ivy Rose Band was featured performer at the Food & Wine Festival at the National Harbor.  Ivy Rose Band is scheduled to release their album in August.

Lil Desi, a dynamic teen who has been performing since the tender age of two. She is trained in many styles of dancing including B-girling and hip-hop to name a few. She has been in two pop groups before going solo, one of the groups hailing from Radio Disney's 1650 Pop Group RD7. In 2008 Lil Desi won, "The Be a KidzBop Star Contest" and with the help of her producer J-Pro of Rock Hard Enterprise and Mr. Clean they embark on completing her CD due sometime this fall of 2010.

Jay Legaspi is a singer-songwriter from New Jersey.  He grew up in a musical household, picking up the guitar in grade school.   Jay also grew up listening to hip-hop, with his first real performance experience being in the ciphers and circles where people would show off their skills in breakdancing.   His music reflects his love of music from artists ranging from John Mayer to Aesop Rock. He has already released an album.
