WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Embassy of the Philippines regrets to inform the Filipino Community in the United States that former Ambassador Leonides Tugade Caday joined his Creator in Manila on 6 November 2013.

Ambassador Caday served at the Philippine Embassy as First Secretary and Consul General and then Counsellor and Minister from 1972 to 1982 and as Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission from 1982 to 1986. He also served as Consul General in New Orleans in 1982 and in Los Angeles from 1988 to 1990.

Ambassador Caday was born in Laoag City and was a law graduate of the University of the Philippines. He joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1968 and had served in various positions, including as Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs from 1996 to 1999.

He was Ambassador of the Philippines to Bahrain from 1992 to 1994; South Africa from 1994 to 1996; and Indonesia from 1999 to 2002. It was during his term in Jakarta that he narrowly survived a bomb attack carried out by Jemaah Islamiyah extremists.

Ambassador Caday’s remains will lie in state at the Santuarium, Araneta Avenue, Quezon City, from 9 to 12 November 2013. Interment will be on Tuesday, 13 November 2013.
