27/04/2010: Philippine Embassy Warns Public on Franchising Business Scams

27 APRIL 2010, WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippine Embassy wishes to warn the public about franchising business scams targeting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).  Reports from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Manila have been received about numerous complaints from those who have been victims of these fake or bogus franchisors.

Prospective investors are advised to exercise caution before venturing into a business endeavor by carefully examining the organization’s legitimacy.  OFWs and potential franchisees may call the DTI direct hotline no. at 751-3330 for this purpose or the Franchising Associations and other government agencies listed below.
