WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Social Security System (SSS) was able to serve over 1,000 clients during its recently concluded 12-day outreach that provided briefings and on-site services for members of the Filipino Community in the United States and Canada.

The Philippine Embassy said a team from the SSS led by its President and Chief Executive Officer, Emilio S. De Quiros Jr., was able to provide services to 1,038 existing and prospective members during their two-week outreach program.

“Filipinos are known for their good work ethic. The objective of the outreach mission was to extend social protection to Filipino workers, at home or abroad. I think that objective was reached,” said Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., who served as SSS Administrator during the term of President Corazon C. Aquino.

“We are very pleased with the positive response and feedback from the communities regarding SSS efforts in reaching out to overseas Filipinos for their social security protection under the institution's coverage programs,” said SSS President De Quiroz. “These will be used as inputs to our policy and service delivery enhancement initiatives.”

The SSS team held briefings in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New Jersey, New York, Washington, as well as in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto in Canada. In Washington, D.C., the team was able to serve 167 clients.

Aside from briefings on SSS programs and services for overseas Filipinos, the team also conducted registration and verification of existing social security numbers; flexi-fund program enrollment; member data amendment; verification of records, application of benefits; and confirmation of pensioners for continued pension entitlement and pensioners' data change request. ###
