23/07/2010: Ambassador Gaa, Filcom Leader Vellie Dietrich-Hall Call on Young Filipino-Americans to Use their Talents to Serve
WASHINGTON DC JULY 23, 2010 – Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa delivered the opening remarks during the Professional Networking and Career Development Night organized by the Filipino Young Professionals (FYP) held at the Carlos P. Romulo Hall of the Embassy of the Philippines.
FYP is a group of young Filipino-Americans coming from various professional backgrounds such as business, engineering, legal, health and government organized to foster greater camaraderie and to offer volunteer services to community events.
The networking event allowed the members of FYP and their guests to engage invited leaders of the Filipino-American community and explore ways on how they can work together to advance the interests of the larger Filipino-American community. One of which is Ms. Vellie Sandalo Dietrich-Hall who gave a heartwarming and inspiring speech to the young Filipino-Americans on her personal journey towards becoming a successful businesswoman and community leader.
Ms. Dietrich-Hall hails from Butuan City in Mindanao in the Philippines and went to the United States after graduating from the University of the Philippines. She is now the President and CEO of HPS Enterprises, Inc., a consultancy firm and a Board Director of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Washington DC.
In his remarks, Ambassador Gaa emphasized that as Filipino-Americans, the young Fil-Ams are in a unique position to further strengthen the partnership between the Philippines and the United States. The Ambassador added that they should use the networking event to gain valuable insights from the community leaders present.
