White House Executive Chef Promotes Healthy Eating at Philippine Village Food Demonstration at Reston Asian Festival

WASHINGTON, DC 30 JULY 2010 – White House Executive Chef Cris Comerford will promote healthy eating and food preparation at the Asian Festival in Reston, Virginia on July 31st.  Comerford, who is originally from the Philippines, will be at the Philippine Village Stage to demonstrate the preparation of healthy foods inspired by her Filipino and Asian roots.  Fresh, flavorful and easy to prepare, these are the three points that Chef Comerford will be making in promoting nutritious food preparation. “Through this demonstration and talk, we would like to let children and parents know that being healthy and serving nutritious food can be fun, easy and delicious and that we can learn much about healthy food preparation from our own culture and heritage, as well as others,’ said Chef Comerford. “Eating healthy and learning how to prepare food properly is important to strengthen a community.  This has been the advocacy of First Lady Michelle Obama and we are happy to help promote that message, particularly to our Asian-American community,” Chef Comerford added.  The Philippine Village at the Asian Festival is a partnership of the Embassy of the Philippines and the Philippine American Foundation for Charities, with full support of the Filipino-American community in the Greater Metro DC area, Maryland and Virginia. END
