10/08/2010: Ambassador Gaa Extends Condolences to the Family of U.S. Senator Ted Stevens
10 August 2010 – On behalf of the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in the United States, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa expressed his deepest condolences to the Stevens family at the untimely demise of respected former Senate icon Ted Stevens, who passed away yesterday.
Ambassador Gaa acknowledged Senator Stevens’ support in strengthening relations between the Philippines and the U.S., and their peoples. In 2002, the long-time Alaska senator pressed for the protection of the Philippine share of the canned tuna market in the U.S. He was also among the American lawmakers who pushed for the passage in 2009 of the U.S. bill which granted recognition and benefits to Filipino World War II veterans.
