20/05/2015: PH PARTICIPATES IN EUROASIA SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL

PRESS RELEASE
WDC-033-2015
20 May 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Three Philippine short films will be making their Washington debut at the annual EuroAsia Shorts Film Festival from 1 to 5 June 2015.

Young Filipino filmmakers Lance Katigbak, Chrysthelyn Siena Quides, Patti Lapus and Kevin Santos will be showcasing their works at the festival under this year’s theme of “Food for Thought.”

Below is a brief description of each film.

Siopao (Steamed Bun)
8 minutes, screen date: 2 June 2015
Filmmakers: Patti Lapus and Kevin Santos

This funny little tale of Manding and Bobot shows us how love, the kind that's guaranteed to make you laugh with its sheer cuteness, is not just found in romance. Sometimes it's discovered through the simplest of things -- something as simple as siopao (steamed buns)

Miss Chips
14 minutes, screen date: 2 June 2015
Writer & Director: Chrysthelyn Siena Quides

Rachel, a Master of Food Studies student, is on her way to food research excellence. A certain study that her group is conducting makes her remember someone from the past: Miss Chips; a girl with a weird eating habit, whom she met 10 years ago in their high school cafeteria. What will happen if they meet once again, after ten years?

Fine Dining
5 minutes, screen date: 5 June 2015
Director: Lance Katigbak

Fine Dining is a short film about poverty, dignity, and the unconquerable nature of the human soul.

Now on its 10th year, the EuroAsia Shorts Film Festival is an annual, week-long screening of short films from Europe, Asia, and the United States shown at embassies and cultural centers throughout Washington, DC. Each evening includes film showing, Q&A and discussions with panels of experts, and special reception events.

Film entries for this year explore the theme “Food for Thought,” comparing and contrasting cross-cultural views of food, food culture, sustainability, ecology, and even human hunger for knowledge, companionship, or spirituality. Countries participating this year are China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Spain, and USA.

This is the first time that the Philippines will join the Festival.

Started in 2006, the EuroAsia Film Festival is an original collaboration between a small group of Washington, DC embassies and cultural center staff. The festival has presented more than 200 short films, including many award-winning shorts making their US debut.
