Philippine Typhoon Victims Receive Assistance from USDA Food for Progress Program

Philippine Agriculture Attache to Washington D.C. Josyline Javelosa (2nd from left) receives Food for Progress Program (FPP) FY 2010 Agreement from Ron Croushorn, USDA Food Assistance Division Director (leftmost).  The agreement was signed by Philippine Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap, US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney, and John Brewer, USDA General Sales and Manager and Vice President of the Commodity Credit Corporation. Under this program, USDA is donating to the Philippine government 7,000 MT of rice and 680 MT of non-fat dry milk for typhoon victims. Commodity and freight tenders are now in process. Freight offers to ship the rice to the Philippines are due on December 7, 2009 1000 hrs central time through the USDA's electronic freight bid entry system. Freight tenders for the milk shipment will also follow soon. Other USDA food assistance division officers in photo (right of Javelosa) are Judith Phillips, Nicola David Sakhleh and Ed Rosebury. END.
