20/10/2009: Department of Finance Given Discretion on Tax and Tariff Exemptions for Relief Goods Donated from Abroad
20 OCTOBER 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – As a result of the destruction and damages caused by Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo authorized the Department of Finance to have full discretion over tax and tariff exemptions for relief goods donated from abroad for the duration of the current emergency.
It must be noted that to qualify for such exemption, all items including new or old clothes sent for distribution should be for the account of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) or any non-profit relief organizations duly registered with DSWD.
A “One Stop Shop” has also been created for this purpose to allow duty free and tax free processing of all donated goods consigned to the DSWD and DSWD-registered non-government organizations. The “One Stop Shop” is located at the Third Floor of the Bureau of Customs Building near NAIA Terminal II and is open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interested parties may wish to contact them at 63-2-879-5180.
