WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Philippine Embassy joined 37 other foreign diplomatic missions for the 5th annual Winternational at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on 07 December 2016.

For the third year of its participation in the Winternational, the Embassy exhibited original handicrafts by the indigenous peoples of the Philippines, and freshwater pearl jewelry fashioned with unique Filipino artistry.

“We are delighted to be part of the annual Embassy Showcase Winternational as it pursues its mission of fostering deeper cultural understanding, and embracing diversity and inclusiveness in international relations,” said Minister Patrick A. Chuasoto, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy.

Among the featured products at the Philippine Embassy booth, which carried the theme “Pearl of the Orient,” were hand-woven table runners, placemats and fabric baskets, and colorful scarves and ties that were crafted using age-old techniques. The handmade crafts were sourced from Anthill Fabric Gallery, a social and cultural enterprise that works to preserve and promote Philippine weaving traditions by applying them into contemporary designs for everyday essentials.

“By joining the Winternational and similar high-profile events, the Embassy can help Philippine organizations get international exposure and support for their stakeholder communities and social advocacies. It also promotes our rich cultural heritage to foreign audiences,” Minister Chuasoto further said.

The Embassy’s participation in the annual Winternational is a cultural and economic diplomacy project done in partnership with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Washington DC, Office of the Philippine Agriculture Attaché in the Americas, and Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA). ###
