13/09/2010: Puerto Princesa Underground River in 7 Wonders of Nature Campaign
The leadership of the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) is requesting the support of Filipinos overseas to vote for the Puerto Princesa Underground River, which has been selected as a finalist in a global survey of the 7 Wonders of Nature Campaign.
The Underground River, which features a spectacular limestone karst landscape, is found in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP). The area also represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. The site contains a full mountain to sea ecosystem and protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia. In recognition of its natural properties, the PPSRNP was inscribed to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s of (UNESCO) List of Natural World Heritage Sites.
The 7 Wonders of Nature Campaign is ongoing until mid-2011. Twenty-eight finalists have been selected, and the seven winners will be announced in November 2011. The global poll is a private initiative run by the 7 Wonders of the World Foundation based in Switzerland, and the poll is confined to those with access to the internet, mobile and land phone. Voting is done through the website, www.new7wonders.com. END
