07/10/2009: Filipino Community in Atlanta Extends Support for Victims of Typhoon Ondoy
07 OCTOBER 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Filipino community in Atlanta, Georgia, through the President of Filipino-American Association of Greater Atlanta, Marites Pelicer, turned over their contributions amounting to USD3,485.00 for victims of Typhoon Ondoy to Philippine Honorary Consul General Raoul “Ray” Donato. The cash donations are a product of the consolidated efforts of Filipino-Americans in Atlanta as they join millions of Filipinos worldwide in the continued support for those displaced by the recent flooding in the Philippines. Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) hit Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces on 26 September, bringing continuous heavy rainfall and leaving various areas inundated for days. National Disaster Coordinating Council reported over 2.5 million Filipinos affected by the storm and a death toll of 277. END.
