20/06/2009: Ambassador Gaa Exhorts Filipino Community to Engage in Higher Level of Involvement in the Philippines; Reaffirms Ties with the United States

20 JUNE 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Keynoting the 2009 Independence Gala Ball held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel here, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa exhorted the Filipino community in the United States to engage in higher level of involvement in the Philippines to best demonstrate their continued commitment to their motherland.  These things, according to Ambassador Gaa, included registering as an overseas absentee voter for Filipinos and reacquiring Filipino citizenship for naturalized Americans, among others.  With an estimated four million Filipinos in America, Ambassador Gaa stressed the vital role that Filipinos contribute to the growth of the United States and the Philippines and emphasized the strong democratic friendship that binds the two countries.  The Philippine Independence Day Gala Ball is an annual event organized by the Philippine American Foundation for Charities (PAFC), Inc., Filipino-American Associations in the Greater Metro DC area and supported by the Philippine Embassy as part of the month-long commemoration of the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.  It featured various cultural presentations and dance performances.  Scot Marciel, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southeast Asia and Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs, was the guest of honor. 20 JUNE 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ador Carreon, President of Philippine American Foundation for Charities (PAFC), Inc. and Victor Emmanuel Lorica, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PAFC present a token of appreciation to Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa for building a strong partnership between the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in the United States during the 2009 Independence Gala Ball held at the J.W.
