12/06/2009: Ambassador Gaa Hosts a Reception on the Occasion of the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence
12 JUNE 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the occasion of the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa hosted a reception at his residence in Washington, D.C.
The reception was attended by almost 200 guests composed of Filipino community leaders, prominent US officials and legislators, including United States Ambassador to ASEAN Scott Marciel who presented the congratulatory message of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the Filipinos and California Congressman Brian Bilbray who expressed the close relations that tied him to the Filipino-American community as representative of the 50th Congressional District of California.
In his toast Ambassador Gaa said, “We have gone a long way as a democracy. Today, as we commemorate this defining moment in our history, we commit ourselves to make our Republic stronger by reaffirming the ties that bind us to our allies and partners in the international arena. With the steadfast support of our Government and people, we are confident that our nation and people can manifest the full realization of the dreams and aspirations set forth by our forbears.” END.
