21/05/2009: Ambassador Gaa in Mass for Protection of Seafarers
21 MAY 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy C. Gaa presents the offering at the Mass for the Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Mariners and People of the Sea along with Commander Dave Huber of the United States Navy (second to the left) and R. Jon Furukawa of the National Transportation Safety Board-Office of Marine Safety (left). The Apostleship of the Sea sponsored the mass held at the St. Dominic Church in Washington, D.C. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick was the main celebrant at the Mass and Maritime Administration Deputy Director James Caponiti said the first reading. The Philippines can be noted as the largest supplier of maritime manpower, supplying one-third of the world’s shipping workforce. Foreign maritime agencies hire around 270,000 Filipino seamen and are characterized for their discipline, flexibility and reliability. END.
