Senate Appropriations Chair Inouye Reassures RP of Continuing Support

12 JANUARY 2009 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Daniel Inouye, Chair of the United States Appropriations Committee, reassures Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo of continued support for the Philippines at a meeting here.  Senator Inouye described the Philippines as a “true friend” of the United States in the global fight against terrorism and underscored the meaningful history shared by the Philippines and the United States grounded firmly in profound respect for democratic values. Senator Inouye likewise expressed support for the passage of the Veterans Bill, saying “I am going do everything that I can.”  Senator Inouye said the United States “owes a lot to the Philippines” in the fight against aggression and in defense of freedom of liberty during the Second World War.
