23/11/2010: Philippine Embassy attends induction ceremonies of Pilipino Educators Network

November 23, 2010, Washington, DC – The newly-organized Pilipino Educators Network (PEN), composed of Filipino teachers in Prince George’s County in Maryland, held its First Annual Meeting and induction of officers at Ernest E. Just Middle School in Mitchellville, Maryland on November 6, 2010. There has been a growing number of Filipino teachers who serve the public school system in Maryland and PEN was formed with the goal of providing professional development opportunities and assist teachers in understanding their professional rights and responsibilities.

The first annual meeting was attended by, bottom row from left, Executive Director Arnedo Valera of the Migrant Heritage Commission, former Delegate David Valderrama of the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County Public Schools Multicultural Education Specialist Realista Rodriguez and Vice Consul Corina Apostol of the Philippine Embassy. In her remarks, Vice Consul Apostol congratulated the new officers and commended them for formalizing a support system that will strengthen a critical social resource in the United States.

The elected president of PEN is Mr. Carlo Parapara (second row, sixth from right).
