PH EMBASSY HOSTS VIRTUAL “ASEAN AGRICULTURE, TRADE AND ECONOMIC ATTACHÉS MEETING” IN WASHINGTON DC

Agriculture, Trade and Economic Attachés of ASEAN Embassies in Washington, D.C. meet virtually on 24 March 2021 to discuss Southeast Asia’s regional and national agricultural trade and cooperation interests with the United States

WASHINGTON, DC. – Officials of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Embassies in Washington, D.C. covering agriculture, trade and the economy held a virtual meeting on 24 March 2021 to discuss agricultural, fisheries and food trade and cooperation interests with the United States. 

The meeting was hosted by the Philippine Embassy and chaired by Philippine Agriculture Attaché Dr. Josyline C. Javelosa.

The group has been meeting occasionally since 2009 to review Southeast Asia’s regional and national agricultural trade relations with the United States. In 2020, the United States exported about $14.2 billion worth of agriculture and related products to ASEAN Member countries while it imported about $19.4 billion worth of agriculture and related goods from the 10 ASEAN nations. 

The 10 member countries of ASEAN are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.


ASEAN Embassies in Washington DC were represented in this virtual meeting by: Sam Sithisak (Commercial Counselor-Cambodia), Hari Edi Soekimo (Agriculture Attaché-Indonesia), Littiphone Silileuxay (Third Secretary-Lao PDR), Madonna John Lazarus (First Secretary-Malaysia), Khin Mya Mya Htway (Counselor-Myanmar), Josyline Javelosa and Raymond Batac (Agriculture Attaché and Commercial Counselor respectively-Philippines), Mark Ngan and Theodora D’cruz (Economic Counselor and First Secretary respectively- Singapore), Krissana Sukhumparnich, Piyawat Naigowit, Chayada Polpun (Minister for Agriculture, Counselor for Agriculture and Assistant to Minister respectively – Thailand), Le Trung Kien, Diep Tran, Nguyen Dang Trung (Third Secretary, Trade Officer, Economic Counselor respectively- Vietnam). ###
